Big Girl Panties....Wise Words

One of the best things that I have heard in the past three weeks is that, yes, this is going to be tough. And yes, this is really scary stuff. And that yes, it's okay to be monumentally freaked out, sometimes.

BUT. If I'm going to really beat this, "it's time to put on the big girl panties and not mess around." Courtesy of Aunt Vicki, who has always been a great mentor to me in so many ways. And as always, when she said that, made me crack up. Which is also very healing you know.

I think she's right. This is the most grownup struggle I have been through yet, and it's not about whining and being scared and not wanting it -- it's about doing what I can because I have to. Ditto for Matt. Maybe more for Matt, unfortunately.

Thanks to Dana for making the panties real...that cracked me up too.

Love you guys.

You in feisty through and through Melissa Peterson.
Thinking of you and your big undies.

I'm in town next Tuesday if you want to visit in the evening. I'd like to come over and pee on your couch (remember when your dog did that at my place)?

xoxo

I think we all need those big girl panties! We were commenting last night how we never think of ourselves as very grown up - no matter how old we get. At least I don't, for some reason. Nothing like life to show us what 'acting like a grown up' really means. Thanks to your aunt (and Dana!) for reminding us what we need to do. Anything you need - anything to kick this little fucker to the curb. you got it. Thanks for making me grow up too.

did you ever find out who steamin'p is???

My mom and her words of wisdom...gotta love her!!! It was so great to see you last weekend...you look amazing, as does your hair. I hope Lucy had a good time at Karsen's party. Always thinking of you...

Love ya, Lindsay

You are absolutely beautiful, gorgeous in fact, with whatever haircut or no hair. That's one talented hair artist though. I really like that cut. I promise to do my letters and I will make them pay attention. How could they not. I was blown away when I saw the facts on the .org site. These stats will be known to the world and action can be taken. I feel a movement coming on. Hope you had a good as can be weekend with your grandparents. Love you tons and looking forward to seeing you guys when we can get together.

That's some serious wisdom: funny = true. I don't have much of that to offer, but I'm trying to send some good energy your way from up here on Capitol Hill. A lot of us are thinking about you these days!

Melissa,

I haven't talked to you since the good old DDB days. I wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts and I'm sending lots of good energy your way.

I wanted to mention that the stats I was very surprised about in my earlier post were the lack of funding compared to other cancers. I am glad to hear this initiative is underway and I have some friends who wrote letters too. You're a lucky girl to have so many friends and family. I think we're in a good position to get the point across.

Hi friends and family of Melissa. I wanted to let you all know about a great website called circusofcancer.org. It is a great resource for info on how we can help Melissa, what to say, what not to say, helpful gifts, etc.
It can't hurt to have a little guidance on this CRAZY ride we are taking with our friend. Love you Melissa!
